The typical process for creating a midsurface model in
Abaqus/CAE
begins with the solid model.
From the solid model, you select cells for which you want to
create a midsurface model. Assigning these solid cells as a midsurface region
creates a reference representation in the viewport from which you can create
shell faces for the midsurface model. You can use tools from the
Geometry Edit toolset
to create the shell faces, then you can assign thicknesses to the new shells.
When you assign thicknesses and offsets to the shell geometry, the default
settings typically center the shell representation within the thickness.
